Import contacts from CSV or XLSX

Map columns, validate a batch and preserve suppression settings.

Prepare the file

Use CSV or XLSX, up to 4 MB, with at most 500 contacts and 64 columns per sheet. Format phone cells as text and include the international prefix, for example +14155550100. Use UTF-8 for CSV. Macro-enabled or binary workbooks and external workbook references are unsupported.

+14155550100,Alex,Example,alex@example.com,en,Pico,website-inquiry

Use your own reviewed contact data. Separate multiple tags with a semicolon or pipe in the tags cell.

Import workflow

  1. Open Contacts → Actions → Upload CSV or XLSX.
  2. Choose the file and review its preview.
  3. For XLSX, select the sheet. Choose the correct header row.
  4. Map the phone column and each optional field once. Unmapped columns are ignored.
  5. Map custom fields only after their definitions exist in Manage contact fields.
  6. Select the review action and correct any row-specific error.
  7. Inspect the validated preview and confirm the import.
  8. Check the imported count and a few saved contacts.

The importer accepts built-in name, email, language, tags, pet name, do-not-call and consent-revocation fields. It does not grant consent from an uploaded spreadsheet. An import cannot override a protected opt-out or suppression with a permissive value.

Resolve common errors

A phone error usually means the plus sign was lost or the country code is missing. A select-field error means the value is outside the field's configured options. Required custom fields must be present. Split a large file into reviewed batches rather than bypassing limits.

Review existing records before reimporting to avoid unintended updates. If a network error occurs after submission, check the saved contacts before starting a separate import.
