# Buy a phone number

Search available countries, review the rental and assign a published voice agent.

Verbatik can provision a new voice number from its connected carrier inventory. You can also use a number in your own Twilio account. Country and number-type availability comes from the selected carrier; a country being listed does not guarantee stock or regulatory approval.

## Before you begin

- Publish a voice agent in the same workspace.
- Check that number purchasing is available for your account and that workspace credit covers the first charge.
- Have the business identity and address documents required for the selected country ready. Some numbers require an approved registration profile before purchase.

## Search and purchase

1. Open **Phone numbers** and choose **Buy new number** from the add menu.
2. Select **Number provider**, **Country** and **Number type**. Standard is the local-number option. Use area code search for the US or Canada, or a number pattern where offered.
3. Select an available number. If registration is required, select an eligible approved profile or finish that registration first.
4. Continue to **Review number purchase**. Check the **Monthly rental**, **Setup fee**, **Due when provisioned**, currency and quote expiry. Calling usage, taxes and regulatory charges are separate.
5. Type the exact number to confirm. For a workspace-credit purchase, accept the first charge and recurring monthly rental.
6. Confirm once and wait for the saved operation result.
7. When the number is ready, assign a published inbound voice agent in **Phone numbers**. Configure outbound use separately when available.

## If the result is pending

Open **View purchase status** or the operations view in **Manage carrier numbers**. A pending or uncertain result is not a reason to purchase again: the carrier may already have allocated the number. Verbatik reconciles the saved operation to avoid another purchase.

A number rental continues until the number is released. Review the release operation carefully; releasing a number can make it unavailable to recover. Numbers bought through Verbatik currently provide voice calling. Use a customer-owned messaging connection for [SMS](/deploy/sms).

## Purchase is unavailable

An unfunded or disabled billing account, missing carrier configuration, missing registration or unavailable inventory can prevent purchase. Finish the prerequisite shown in the dialog. Buying a new number does not move your existing clinic number; see [Keep an existing number](/deploy/existing-number).
