# Manage contacts and custom fields

Keep caller details, tags and permissions organized by workspace.

## Create and find contacts
Open **Data → Contacts**. Use **Actions → Add contact** for an individual record or [import a CSV/XLSX file](/contact-import/) for a reviewed batch.

Store international phone numbers with a leading plus sign and country code. Use first/last name, email, language, pet name and tags where useful. Filter by language, consent, do-not-call state and tags. Customize columns to show the fields your team needs.

## Add custom fields
Use **Actions → Manage contact fields** to define workspace fields. Types include text, number, boolean, date and select. Give a field a stable key and a readable label. Configure required fields and validation before importing or editing contacts that use them.

For a clinic, a field might describe the preferred clinic location or a non-sensitive service interest. Do not collect unnecessary clinical or payment details just because a custom field exists.

## Permissions and outreach
A contact record does not authorize a call or SMS. Consent, suppression and do-not-call state must be respected by the relevant campaign or Flow. Importing a tag such as “new lead” is not evidence of permission.

Review the record's related conversations when following up. A remembered caller detail may help continuity; it is not an authoritative appointment or patient record. Verify identity and use the connected booking/PMS tool for changes that require it.

Each workspace has its own contact data and integration connections. Confirm you are in the intended clinic workspace before adding, exporting or importing a list.
